Adoption authorities said Saturday that they have asked the U.S., Italy,
Greece, Spain and Switzerland about the well-being of more than 1,300
adopted Romanian-born children after Romanian officials lost track of
them.
Adoptive parents are obliged to keep Romanian authorities informed about
the fate of the children under the agreements signed when the children
were adopted, the head of the Office for Adoption, Theodora Bertzi, was
quoted as saying by the Mediafax news agency.
Romania placed a moratorium on international adoptions in 2001 at the
request of the European Union due to widespread corruption in the
adoption system....
