...Eight years ago, Clarence moved to Hilton Head Island from New Jersey
with the intention of retiring from the ministry. The former dentist
said he had felt God calling him out of that profession to become a
pastor several years before that. He spent three years studying
part-time at a Bible college and four years in seminary before leading a
church in New Jersey.
But in 1998, he made the move to South Carolina, where he met Deborah,
47, at a Gullah celebration. A month later, the two met again at a
business meeting, and Clarence asked her out to lunch. The rest, he
says, is history.
Soon, he found himself pastoring a church on Daufuskie Island. In 2000,
the couple married -- not quite the retirement he had imagined, but a
blessing nonetheless, he says....
