The country marked its first Adoption Day on Thursday.
The government, last year, designated the day as part of its efforts to promote domestic adoption.
Kim Hyung-eun reports on how the day was commemorated and takes us in-depth on the issue.
Marking Korea's inaugural Adoption Day a ceremony was held in southern Seoul.
It was attended by nearly a thousand people including families with adopted children, government officials as well as some celebrities.
Korea's Health and Welfare Minister Rhyu Si-min urged the country to pay more attention to the issue while first lady Kwon Yang-suk sent a video message saying that the government will do its best to assist the families who adopt.
